Ed Parsons to Deliver Keynote at GSDI World Conference

The organising team of the 15th Global Spatial Data Infrastructure World Conference (GSDI 15) has confirmed Ed Parsons as a keynote speaker. Parsons is the geospatial technologist of Google, with responsibility for evangelising Google’s mission to organise the world’s information using geography, and tools including Google Earth, Google Maps and Google Maps for Mobile.

In his role, Parsons also maintains links with universities, research and standards organisations which are involved in the development of Geospatial Technology. He currently is co-chair of the W3C/OGC Spatial Data on the Web Working Group. Parsons is based in Google's London office. He holds a Masters degree in Applied Remote Sensing from Cranfield Institute of Technology, and holds an Honorary Doctorate in Science from Kingston University, London.

Ed Parsons is the latest addition to the GSDI 15 keynote speaker line-up. He will join Mark Reichardt, president of the Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC), and Barbara Ryan, secretariat director of the Intergovernmental Group on Earth Observations (GEO), in delivering thought-provoking talks.

Collaboration and interoperability

Each GSDI Conference brings together engaging speakers and inquisitive participants to explore the challenges and innovations related to increasing access to and use of geospatial data. The GSDI 15 Conference will showcase strategies, policies, and best-practices that are driving collaboration and interoperability with respect to data collection and acquisition, integration, discovery, visualisation, and analysis. GSDI 15 is being held in Taipei, Taiwan (Republic of China) from 28 November to 2 December 2016, hosted by the Taiwan Association of Disaster Prevention Industry (TADPI), with strong support from Ministry of the Interior. The theme of the conference is “Spatial Enablement in the Smart Homeland”.

Geospatial professionals are invited to share SDI practices, learn from colleagues, and broaden their network. The GSDI 15 Call for Abstracts will remain open until 15 May. GSDI will continue to add more details about the conference program to the Conference website in the coming weeks.

The GSDI 15 organising team encourages early registration. More information about speaking at or sponsoring the conference can be found at the conference website at http://gsdi15.org.tw/.
