MoU Between ISPRS and AARSE and EIS-Africa

At the biennial conference of the African Association of Remote Sensing of the Environment (AARSE) Memoranda of Understanding (MoU) were signed between the International Society for Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing (ISPRS) and AARSE and with EIS-Africa. The MoUs set out agreements for co-operation between the societies through exchange of information and collaboration in activities such as the organisation of joint meetings and recruitment and from time to time through joint projects and joint working groups.

The conference provided an excellent opportunity to discuss ideas for new projects and one outcome was agreement for AARSE, EIS-Africa and ISPRS to collaborate on organising workshops in conjunction with the UN CODIST conference in April 2011 and the Africa GIS Conference in Cairo in October 2011. Tsehaie Woldai, outgoing president of AARSE said “The MoU cements the relationship between AARSE and ISPRS and will ensure good co-operation in the future.

Sives Govender, executive Director of EIS-Africa said, “We welcome the opportunity to collaborate with ISPRS to support EIS-Africa’s effort in promoting the use of Geospatial Science and Technology for sustainable development in Africa”. The MoUs were signed on behalf of ISPRS by Ian Dowman, First Vice President of ISPRS who said “ISPRS welcomes this formalisation of our relationship with African societies and means that we can move forward as equals and work together for the benefit of geospatial science in Africa.”
