Sokkia CX Total-station Series

Sokkia has introduced its CX total-station series. The CX models (1, 2, 3, 5 and 7 arc second accuracies) feature electronic distance measurement (EDM) technology. The CX models have the ability to shoot up to 500m (1,641 feet) reflectorless and 4,000m (13,123 feet) with a prism, and according to Sokkia, achieve the fastest measurement times in their class.

Along with the new CX series also comes TSshield, a telematics-based communications module which provides remote security and maintenance options.

Ray Kerwin, director of global planning-survey products, said that TSshield enabled owners to receive on-instrument notices in reference to firmware updates. If the instrument is lost or stolen, a future firmware release will allow the owner to send a coded signal virtually anywhere in the world to the instrument to disable it.

Kerwin also said the CX series, when using an external data collector, can utilise Magnet software solutions, a cloud-based solution that streamlines the field and office connection.

The CX101 and CX102 total stations also utilise Independent Angle Calibration System (IACS) technology providing reliable angle measurement. This technology method allows for 1 arc second accurate measurements in a small instrument.

Using Bluetooth Class 1 technology, with the CX long-distance wireless data communications more than 300m (984 feet) are possible.

The battery is expected to have a life of up to 36 hours and a rugged metal chassis gives the device an IP66 dustproof and waterproof rating.
