PIA07 took place in Munich, Germany, from 19th to 21st September 2007, attended by 115 participants from 22 countries. Richard Bamler and Luc van Gool gave presentations by invitation. The Institute of Photogrammetry and Carto­graphy, Technische Universität München (TUM) hosted the meeting and the range of topics reflected the interests of ISPRS working groups who co-operated: SAR and LIDAR Systems (WG I/2), Surface Reconstruction (WG III/2), Automatic Image Interpretation for City-Modelling (WG III/4), Road Extraction and Traffic Monitoring (WG III/5), and Automated Geo-Spatial Data Acquisition and Mapping (WG IV/3).

Prospective authors wishing to present original, scientific work were invited to submit a full paper and the 49 received underwent rigorous “double blind” review by at least three reviewers per paper. The rejection rate was 30%. Accepted papers are published as printed proceedings in the ISPRS series and on CD labelled “Part A”. The single-track design of the meeting, with seven oral sessions, enabled participants to attend all presentations and share the intensive discussions facilitated by generous time-slots. As a consequence of this set-up, only twenty papers of the thirty-four accepted could be orally presented.

Authors wishing to present application-oriented work interactively were invited to submit an extended abstract, and 32 of 55 abstracts were accepted. The resulting full papers are published on CD labelled “Part B”. These papers, together with the full papers accepted but not orally presented, were presented in two interactive sessions, in total 46 papers.
