April Survey Team
Geographical engineer José Guerreiro working at the Port of Lisbon in Portugal sent us photos of himself and his co-workers team, a team we've crowned GIM International Survey Team of April for its work surveying both land and the waters of Lisbon. The top photo shows one of the surveyors doing a topographical survey at sunset to monitor evolution of the Santo Amaro Beach after nourishment. The team photo (below) was taken during a technical visit onboard the Cornelia Dredger, which is carrying out capital dredging works in the Port of Lisbon. The people in the photo are all hydrographers belonging to the Port of Lisbon Hydrographic Service.
LinkedIn group GeomaticsOn our LinkedIn group Geomatics, currently heading towards one thousand members, associate professor and entrepreneur Bharat Lohani of India wonders which open-source for WebGIS development is used by fellow geomatics professionals. His query sets off as follows: "Until recently we have been working with MapGuide +PHP. We have also done some development using MapObjects +VB. We are currently evaluating the existing open-source systems which can serve our need for, firstly, good desktop GIS development, and secondly a server which can serve our GIS over the net. As you know, there are a couple of choices on the market. Our application requirements are medium-level GIS applications (say WebGIS for a municipality, or WebGIS for a university campus). Our applications demand writing quite a few innovative analysis tools for WebGIS. Please share your experience with open-source and let me know which set (mapping library, mapper server and programming language) would you suggest and why?"

Using Total Stations for Indoor Radiation Mapping |
|
A total station can be used for many applications. Oak Ridge Associated Universities (USA) uses a total station for indoor radiation characterisation, which enables the team to better perform environmental assessments. This video shows how it is done.
