| NetCad |
| Since its founding in Ankara in 1989, Netcad has been fully focused on developing CAD and GIS software using its own resources. The main products, marketed under the same generic brand name, are Netcad on desktop and NETGIS|Server. Many engineering solutions have also been developed on these platforms. The company has been a member of OGC since 2004, and carries CMMI Level 3. |

The company began with a staff of two, the co-founders. Netcad now employs 120 personnel, located at Ankara headquarters and the Istanbul Branch office. It has gone on to develop many different solutions, gain 85% of the local market share and become an international provider of CAD and GIS and engineering software solutions which are also used in 462 departments of 82 universities. We place a particular stress on education. For more than ten years we have supplied academic licences to many academic institutions in and around Turkey. Besides gaining high market awareness and product operability, this approach also decreases the training costs of potential customers employing new engineers.
From a basic survey platform, Netcad evolved into a group of solutions encompassing remote sensing, photogrammetry and geomatics and extending to a comprehensive CAD, engineering and GIS system capable of serving advanced analysis and presentation. Assuring its quality standards to international level, Netcad has attained ISO9001:2008, ISO/IEC27001:2005 and ISO20000-1: 2005 certification, besides CMMI Level 3. Being an associate member of the Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC) keeps Netcad in constant touch with the newest standards and developments, ensuring Netcad GIS solutions are WMS, WFS, CS-W and SF(SQL)-compliant.
Acumen in R&D
All solutions are interoperable and have fully dynamic CAD and GIS features. To achieve this coverage the company invests its acumen heavily in research and development. R&D, project and technical specialists comprise 70% of the total staff and are deliberately hired from every discipline, targeted to be as close as possible to the market and to speak the same language as the customer.
Customer is King
We provide solutions and services for all private and public entities having an intersection with geography; in short, everybody. As a natural result, all military and government organisations in Turkey use at least one group of Netcad solutions. We began exporting this know-how and solution strategy in 2008. Attracting more interest than expected from the regions (Middle East, Europe and Balkans, North Africa and Central Asia), Netcad increased its international business investments. The strategy most welcomed is to stay close to the client and deliver complete GIS-related solutions that meet their customer requirements one hundred percent.
Particularly in our target region, trying to adapt solutions from countries like the US, Japan or EU countries, which solved their basic mapping and cadastral problems almost a century ago, generally creates huge problems, even deadlock. Instead of supplying developer-based solutions, Netcad always prefers to offer customer-oriented solutions. Within this strategy our solutions also have a scalable and extendible structure for customer-oriented and fully localised systems. The goal is to view GIS as the keystone of e-government structures, and thus designed and implemented fulfilling the local requirements and infrastructure of each country.
No Such Word as "No"
In just one year, 2009, Netcad developed five new solutions (Virtual Globe solution; GloNET, Corridor Analysis, Mining Design and Ore Body Planning solution; Netpro/Mine, Drip Irrigation Design solution and Sewage/Storm Water Network Design solution). According to Serdar Ak, Netcad founder and general manager, R&D is an "earthquake-like phenomenon. As works are completed, the information and experience is stored in the company memory like energy stored in faults. The results of these stored memories have a tremendous impact on new product developments". This great memory store and its valuable components have also allowed Netcad to remove the "no" from its business development vocabulary in terms of a specific feature demanded by the customer.
The burgeoning economic growth of Turkey, even during the unfortunate recession experienced by the economies of many surrounding countries, has also played its part in our ability to grow Netcad. Our natural advantages: common history, close culture and geography, have also opened up new opportunities within the region. Having the wind with us all the way, Netcad has hauled up the anchor to sail into the future full of confidence inspired by past glorious success.

Using Total Stations for Indoor Radiation Mapping |
|
A total station can be used for many applications. Oak Ridge Associated Universities (USA) uses a total station for indoor radiation characterisation, which enables the team to better perform environmental assessments. This video shows how it is done.
