The FIG General Assembly held a meeting in Sydney, Australia, on Sunday 11th and Friday 18th April 2010, during which important decisions were arrived at.
Teo CheeHai of Malaysia was elected to the presidency of FIG for the period 2011-2014; Mr CheeHai was already FIG vice-president. Dr. Chryssy Potsiou (Greece) and Prof. Rudolf Staiger (Germany) were both elected vice-presidents for a four-year term (2011 - 2014) and Dr. Dalal Alnaggar (Egypt) for 2011-2012. The venue of the FIG 2014 Congress will be Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia; the dates 9th - 16th April 2014 should already be reserved for this major event. Coming FIG working weeks will take place in:
The General Assembly accepted new member associations from Albania, Benin, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Cyprus and Nepal, respectively. Ten new affiliates and several other new members were also welcomed into FIG. FIG has now 103 Members (from nearly the same number of countries), 37 Associate members, 89 Academic members and 35 Corporate members. The GA appointed Prof. Pedro Cavero (Spain), Prof. Paul v.d. Molen (The Netherlands) and Helge Onsrud (Norway) as Honorary Members of FIG for their contribution to the development and promotion of the surveying profession at international level.
Christiaan Lemmen has been appointed director of the International Office of Cadastre and Land Records (OICRF), a permanent FIG institution. He succeeds Prof. Paul van der Molen. Pauline van Elsland has been appointed Secretary.
Each Commission Chair submitted a written report on the activities of their Commission since the FIG Working Week in Eilat. These reports include progress reports on Commission working groups. Each Commission held an annual or other meeting during the Congress in Sydney. Reports from the Young Surveyors Network and Standards Network are presented under Commission reports at the FIG website.
