IntraSearch Initiates an Aerial Orthophoto Mapping Project for the CVAG

  17/11/2005

IntraSearch, Inc. (CO, USA) is completing aerial orthographic imaging of 510 square miles for the Coachella Valley Association of Governments (CVAG) located in Palm Desert, California (USA). CVAG was formed in 1973 under California's Joint Powers Law to address issues of valley-wide significance. CVAG serves a population of approximately 395,000 people and such cities as Desert Hot Springs, Palm Springs, Cathedral City, Rancho Mirage, Palm Desert, Indian Wells, La Quinta, Indio, Coachella, and unincorporated Riverside County. In 2003 CVAG formed the Coachella Valley Data Consortium (CVDC) for the purpose of obtaining aerial photography and other data of valley-wide importance. The CVDC includes the valley’s Indian Tribes and other interested agencies.

The project provides an area-wide ortho mosaic created from 1”= 800’ scale photography to be used by CVAG city GIS departments for infrastructure analysis, emergency response and other GIS mapping functions. The data will be available for sale on the company’s MapMart website.

The SportsMapping division of IntraSearch is using the imagery to map all of the golf courses within the CVAG area. Over 110 golf courses will be digitally mapped and georeferenced... These maps will be available for utilisation in SportsMapping’s featured GroundLinkx GIS Software program for golf course maintenance as well as providing major marketing opportunities.

GroundLinkx programs are already installed at several courses in the Valley, including, The Quarry at La Quinta, Eldorado Country Club, The Vintage Club, The hideaway, and The Plantation.

GroundlLinkx is a geographic information system program for golf course resource management efficiency and course maintenance cost-containment.

3D Scanning of Historic Sugar Factories

The Alliance for Integrated Spatial Technologies at the University of South Florida, USA, recently worked with the Florida Park Service on a project to document the remains of several historic sugar-mill sites in the State Parks to create as-builts to be used in preservation and conservation of these resources. The FARO LS 880, along with GPS and total station georeferencing and colour imaging, was used on these projects.
