Instituto Geográfico Português Selects INPHO

  11/01/2006

Instituto Geográfico Português (IGP), the Portuguese Geographic Institute, have recently purchased a complete INPHO product suite for digital orthophoto production. The contract negotiations and system supply was done by GTBibérica S.L. (Spain), INPHO’s distributor in the Iberian and Latin American sales regions.

The main task of the Portuguese Geographic Institute for the INPHO production line is producing full coverage of orthophoto maps for Mainland Portugal and generating high quality DTMs for some areas of the country. The UltraCamD digital aerial camera from Vexcel will be used for acquiring the digital aerial imagery. Under a protocol established with the Portuguese Forest Service, the Portuguese Geographic Institute is responsible for ortho-rectification of these images and for production of the orthophoto maps that will be used, among other purposes, to obtain the next national forest inventory.

The decisive factors for acquiring the INPHO software suite were high throughput, and capacity to edit these high data volumes with easy-to-use software. Furthermore, the ortho-rectifica¬tion and mo¬saicking modules offer several very useful features and functions for production, especially when there is a need to produce a large number of orthophoto maps within a short time frame, yet preserving the high quality.

3D Scanning of Historic Sugar Factories

The Alliance for Integrated Spatial Technologies at the University of South Florida, USA, recently worked with the Florida Park Service on a project to document the remains of several historic sugar-mill sites in the State Parks to create as-builts to be used in preservation and conservation of these resources. The FARO LS 880, along with GPS and total station georeferencing and colour imaging, was used on these projects.
