Aerial Imagery 3D Visualisation

  08/11/2006

Diamond Visionics (NY, USA) has added large, high-value aerial and satellite imagery to their real-time simulation applications, by using ER Mapper's ECW image format. This imagery provides exceptional detail to the already realistic 3D visualisation produced by Diamond Visionics new GenesisMP product.

Diamond Visionics are using ER Mapper Professional to create seamless ECW image mosaics of nearly one terabyte (1,000 gigabytes) of imagery.

Mr Graham Upton, Vice President Marketing, of Diamond Visionics said, "Diamond Visionics needed an image format that would be scalable, highly compressed and able to be rapidly decompressed at run-time. Of all the options we considered, the ECW format was the clear choice."

ECW compatibility has also been added to Diamond Visionics' GenesisRT application.

3D Scanning of Historic Sugar Factories

The Alliance for Integrated Spatial Technologies at the University of South Florida, USA, recently worked with the Florida Park Service on a project to document the remains of several historic sugar-mill sites in the State Parks to create as-builts to be used in preservation and conservation of these resources. The FARO LS 880, along with GPS and total station georeferencing and colour imaging, was used on these projects.
