| Mobexx has announced the UK launch of a range of military-specification tablet and laptop PCs for rugged environments where field mapping, data collection and communication is key to boosting efficiency. The Getac manufactured devices are suitable for Zone 2 hazardous applications, for example, where there are flammable vapours in the atmosphere. |

The computers are according to the supplier suited for mobile GIS and can be used in a wide range of industries including, construction, engineering, transportation, oil and gas, aviation, defence, public safety and utilities. Mobexx also provides an extensive line of rugged accessories for use with the tablets and laptops to make it easy to integrate RFID tag readers, bar code scanners, magnetic stripe readers and digital imagers/cameras.

The Alliance for Integrated Spatial Technologies at the University of South Florida, USA, recently worked with the Florida Park Service on a project to document the remains of several historic sugar-mill sites in the State Parks to create as-builts to be used in preservation and conservation of these resources. The FARO LS 880, along with GPS and total station georeferencing and colour imaging, was used on these projects.
