  02/06/2009
Mobexx has announced the UK launch of a range of military-specification tablet and laptop PCs for rugged environments where field mapping, data collection and communication is key to boosting efficiency. The Getac manufactured devices are suitable for Zone 2 hazardous applications, for example, where there are flammable vapours in the atmosphere.

Mobexx rugged field computers

The computers are according to the supplier suited for mobile GIS and can be used in a wide range of industries including, construction, engineering, transportation, oil and gas, aviation, defence, public safety and utilities. Mobexx also provides an extensive line of rugged accessories for use with the tablets and laptops to make it easy to integrate RFID tag readers, bar code scanners, magnetic stripe readers and digital imagers/cameras.

The Mobexx Getac range includes the E100, which is the lightest rugged tablet PC on the market today. The ruggedness of the E100 is further enhanced with its IP54 rating, keeping unwanted dust and moisture out of the unit. The computer can be configured for temperature operation to minus 20°C as well as the option of a sunlight-readable display.

The versatile Getac V100 can be used as both a laptop and a tablet PC. It comes in two screen sizes - 10 inch or 12 inch - with touch panel. Utilising a low-power Intel Core 2 Duo processor, the Getac V100 boasts a quiet fan-less design that provides computing power for sophisticated software applications.

For rugged, configurable computing Mobexx offers the Getac A790. The laptop features include a sealed die-cast magnesium alloy casing that not only provides superior durability, but is also water and dust resistant and meets the IP54 standard. An optional second battery that extends the battery performance time up to 6 hours. Its Intel Core Duo processor runs 1.6 GHz and it can accommodate up to 1GB of high-speed memory. Two high-resolution XGA display sizes are available (12.1" or 14.1"), with an optional touch screen display.

3D Scanning of Historic Sugar Factories

The Alliance for Integrated Spatial Technologies at the University of South Florida, USA, recently worked with the Florida Park Service on a project to document the remains of several historic sugar-mill sites in the State Parks to create as-builts to be used in preservation and conservation of these resources. The FARO LS 880, along with GPS and total station georeferencing and colour imaging, was used on these projects.
