Building Bridges between People09/06/2009 |
| At the GSDI conference next week, as part of the social activities, the Sponsored Projects Committee of GSDI Association will host a silent auction to raise money for the GSDI Developing Nation Fund. This fund is used to support human capacity building in developing nations such as by covering travel expenses of representatives of national organisations from developing countries to attend important conferences and workshops. |
|
Please consider bringing an item identifiable with your nation or region of the world to donate to the auction. Items might include books, rugs, handicrafts, shawls, jewelry, carvings, baskets, hats, pottery, pillows, artwork, musical instruments, software, hardware, training, a vacation house for a period of time, etc. Use your imagination!
Donated items will be exhibited in a suitable room during the conference. Each item will have a Silent Auction Bid Page, so that people may bid on items throughout the week. The highest written bid on each sheet as of Thursday at the end of the afternoon coffee break wins the bid and the right to take the item home. A few selected items will be held out and sold through a live auction at the Gala Dinner on Thursday Evening.
Please contribute, bid, have fun, and help build support for and solidarity with the global community of SDI specialists attempting to make a difference in impoverished nations.

3D Scanning of Historic Sugar Factories |
|
The Alliance for Integrated Spatial Technologies at the University of South Florida, USA, recently worked with the Florida Park Service on a project to document the remains of several historic sugar-mill sites in the State Parks to create as-builts to be used in preservation and conservation of these resources. The FARO LS 880, along with GPS and total station georeferencing and colour imaging, was used on these projects.
