Public Transport System Maps Streets Ahead

  01/07/2009
Mobexx has launched a transport innovation for bus and coach operators in the UK that has already won over important transit organisations in North America. The ‘Mentor Streets' computer-aided despatch and automatic vehicle location system provides a one-box real-time vehicle information, navigation and communication solution. Evidence from users in the US shows that customer service levels and operational efficiency is significantly improved with this intelligent transport system (ITS).

Public Transport Mapping System
The fully integrated ITS solution includes Automatic Vehicle Location (AVL) software that allows dispatchers to track buses in real-time on colour-coded, customisable maps. This ensures that everyone in the operations office is aware of actual vehicle and driver activity in relation to planned routes and schedules. The system allows operators to improve on-time service, be more responsive to customers and reduce fuel costs with efficient routing.  In addition, the system allows instant responses to any incident that may occur, such as a vehicle breakdown, traffic jam or road traffic accident.

The system can be used with existing in-vehicle peripherals and back-end transit software and its modular structure makes customisation simple. For companies requiring new on-board computers to use with the system, Mobexx offers the Mentor Ranger. This rugged and compact in-vehicle computer is fully optimised for use with the Streets system and provides voice and data communications, automatic vehicle location and vehicle telemetry in a fully integrated single powerful platform.

Major US customers include the Central Florida Regional Transportation Authority - LYNX - and the award winning Minnesota Public Transit Association - St. Cloud Metro Bus.

Indoor Augmented Reality with Bing Maps

During this presentation of Blaise Aguera during TED 2010, you can see Bing Maps working from the sky towards street-level imagery and also showing images inside buildings. It even is capable adding real-time movie imagery from inside.
