Largest Children's Map to be Unveiled

  17/09/2009
The map of the world on display at Intergeo in Karlsruhe from 22th to 24th September is a favourite addition to children's bedrooms, due to its lovingly crafted, finely detailed images. Measuring 4.35 by 3.09 metres, it is the largest map of its kind printed as a single piece.

Children World Map

Stiefel Eurocart from Lenting, Germany, is now bringing its record-breaking children's map to the congress trade fair for geodesy, geoinformation and land management. This is the first time that the map will be on display to a wider audience.

Intergeo will also celebrate the premiere of an impressive selection of contemporary, decorative world maps. The approximately 35 exhibits in the display of world maps at Stand 4.641 in the dm-arena (Hall 4) include a number of world firsts that are not yet available to purchase on the market. Made of paper, fabric and film, the maps enable people to trace their own personal trip across the globe. Ranging in scale from 1:20 million to 1:40 million, the maps display physical features as well as details of politics, transport, tourism, time zones, the hydrosphere, geology, earthquakes and tsunamis. The ocean floor and groundwater resources also feature. A night image of the Earth and various satellite maps open up entirely new perspectives. The maps, in a number of different languages, have various centre points and some have switched the conventional positions of North and South.

3D Scanning of Historic Sugar Factories

The Alliance for Integrated Spatial Technologies at the University of South Florida, USA, recently worked with the Florida Park Service on a project to document the remains of several historic sugar-mill sites in the State Parks to create as-builts to be used in preservation and conservation of these resources. The FARO LS 880, along with GPS and total station georeferencing and colour imaging, was used on these projects.
