Agricultural Auto-Steer Solutions

  29/10/2009
Leica Geosystems’ agricultural applications provide farmers with reliable, easy to use precision agriculture tools to help reduce input costs and increase profitability. Working from the global headquarters in Switzerland and regional offices in North America and Australia, Leica Geosystems Agriculture Solutions Group combines the company’s measurement and positioning technology with local agriculture specialists to offer farmers the best support in each market.

The entry model Leica mojoGLIDE is a dual frequency auto-steer system providing 15-25cm pass-to-pass accuracy without the use of a base station or network connection. For more precise requirements, e.g. for vegetable production, the mojoGLIDE can be simply upgraded to Leica mojoRTK to be used with a base station for 5cm RTK accuracy. Leica mojoRTK is also available as a network-ready console.

Agricultural vehicles that do not have factory-installed steering kits can be equipped with the Leica QuickSteer motor. Leica Geosystems offers this new retrofit option to farmers who want to add auto-steer functionality to their older tractors. Utilising a universal mounting bracket, the Leica QuickSteer can be moved between vehicles allowing a single system to be used on multiple vehicles. The Leica QuickSteer avoids the expense and complexity of fitting a hydraulic interface normally present in other auto-steer solutions.

The innovative remote service and support diagnostics tool Leica Virtual Wrench is available to all Leica mojo auto-steer solutions. Upon request, technicians authorised by Leica Geosystems can view and adjust settings, look at the field terrain and base station location, update latest software and ultimately diagnose and repair more than 80% of issues which occur during field work.

Leica Geosystems will display its agriculture solutions at the Agritechnica show from 10th to 14th November 2009 in Hanover/Germany at Hall 16, Booth E11. For more information on Leica Geosystems agricultural products, visit www.mojortk.com.

Port-au-Prince as Seen from Sky

NASA's Earth Observing-1 satellite captured this image of Port-au-Prince, Haiti, on the morning of Jan. 15, 2010. The image shows the densely built and densely populated capital city. Satellite images like this one, when compared with similar images taken before the earthquake, will provide information to support disaster recovery efforts in Haiti. Data from the Advanced Land Imager on the satellite. Image processed by NASA's Earth Observatory, Goddard Space Flight Center
