Seismic Positioning Contract for Veripos

  02/11/2009
Veripos, a world leader in the provision of precise Global Navigation Satellite System positioning solutions to the offshore oil and gas industry, has been commissioned by ARIS Geophysical of Moscow to provide positioning services together with associated equipment and software aboard two vessels carrying out transitional zone seismic surveys in Sakhalin, Far East Russia.

The source vessel Iskatel 4 and recording vessel Professor Gagarinsky were mobilised in Yuzhno-Sakhalinski, Sakhalin Island. They have been equipped with Veripos LD2-G2 mobile receiver systems together with Verify-QC software for real-time assessment and post-processing. Data generated is via the company's Ultra Precise Point Positioning service which is capable of providing continuous decimetre-level accuracies.

The project marks further collaboration between Veripos and ARIS Geophysical, one of Russia's leading independent transitional zone seismic survey organisations. It follows their recent joint operations in the Gulf of Khambhat in India on behalf of the state-owned Oil & Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC).

Walter Steedman, Veripos Managing Director stated: "We are delighted to extend our association with ARIS Geophysical, which demonstrates their faith in the quality of the services and support offered by Veripos often in challenging environments and remote locations."

ARIS Geophysical President Igor Schwartz commented "We are grateful to Veripos for their prompt and efficient assistance and look forward to future projects together."

Port-au-Prince as Seen from Sky

NASA's Earth Observing-1 satellite captured this image of Port-au-Prince, Haiti, on the morning of Jan. 15, 2010. The image shows the densely built and densely populated capital city. Satellite images like this one, when compared with similar images taken before the earthquake, will provide information to support disaster recovery efforts in Haiti. Data from the Advanced Land Imager on the satellite. Image processed by NASA's Earth Observatory, Goddard Space Flight Center
