Tele Atlas Licenses Intermap 3D Terrain Models

  13/11/2009
Intermap Technologies, the international 3D digital mapping company, has signed an agreement with Tele Atlas, a provider of digital maps and dynamic content for navigation and location-based solutions. Under the terms of the agreement, Intermap will furnish uniform 3D elevation data derived from its 5-metre posted NEXTMap countrywide digital map database.

"We're pleased that our precision elevation data is being used to enhance the display of road networks for a full range of navigation services," said Brian Bullock, Intermap's president and CEO. "Tele Atlas is continuing to demonstrate its leadership in delivering what navigation system users want - the world as it truly is, in 3D. The immediate availability of our uniformly accurate 3D digital maps allows automotive, personal navigation and LBS solutions providers to meet the demands of their customers sooner, rather than later."

"Tele Atlas is committed to delivering the best visualisation product to our customers worldwide," stated Rik Temmink, Tele Atlas' global vice-president of product management. "Intermap's NEXTMap digital maps set the baseline standard for true 3D in-dash visualisation and are uniquely able to deliver real world views of not only the road network, but the entire surface of the earth. We're excited to work with Intermap's NEXTMap terrain data, which allows us to take navigation to the next level with a visually superior product set."

"Our first major supply agreement within the automotive industry is a significant accomplishment for the company's automotive division and benefits the industry as a whole," stated Eric DesRoche, senior vice president of automotive for Intermap. "Getting our NEXTMap data into the vehicle is seen as a critical first step to supporting a variety of applications in partnership with Tele Atlas."

Intermap's NEXTMap data provides a uniform and accurate geospatial base layer, enabling Tele Atlas to easily conflate other visual assets such as building models, roads and landmarks - resulting in a realistic visualization product that matches the outside world. The Company is delivering data assets with a targeted launch into equipped automobiles in late 2010.

Port-au-Prince as Seen from Sky

NASA's Earth Observing-1 satellite captured this image of Port-au-Prince, Haiti, on the morning of Jan. 15, 2010. The image shows the densely built and densely populated capital city. Satellite images like this one, when compared with similar images taken before the earthquake, will provide information to support disaster recovery efforts in Haiti. Data from the Advanced Land Imager on the satellite. Image processed by NASA's Earth Observatory, Goddard Space Flight Center
