Blue Marble Volunteers at Local Schools for GIS Day16/11/2009 |
| Blue Marble Geographics are participating in National GIS Day, 18th November 2009. Employees will go to local schools and present a demonstration on how GIS is a part of our everyday life. Blue Marble’s geospatial data manipulation and conversion solutions are used worldwide by thousands of GIS analysts at software companies, universities, oil and gas companies, civil engineering, surveying, technology, enterprise GIS groups, government and military organisations. |

Blue Marble has volunteered to present a GIS discussion to three high schools in the Augusta Maine region to promote geographic awareness in Maine. GIS Day provides an international forum for users of GIS technology to demonstrate real-world applications that are making a difference in society. More than 80 countries will participate in local events. Blue Marble will lead an open discussion with the students on how GIS is a part of their everyday lives. The presentation will include a classroom exercise in which students will apply GIS tools and analysis to the question of where to construct a hypothetical wind farm in a given Maine location, taking into account the interests of local residents and environmental impact.

3D Scanning of Historic Sugar Factories |
|
The Alliance for Integrated Spatial Technologies at the University of South Florida, USA, recently worked with the Florida Park Service on a project to document the remains of several historic sugar-mill sites in the State Parks to create as-builts to be used in preservation and conservation of these resources. The FARO LS 880, along with GPS and total station georeferencing and colour imaging, was used on these projects.
