Sri Lanka Signs Agreement with SSTL17/11/2009 |
| The Director General of the Sri Lankan Telecommunications Regulatory Commission, Priyantha Kariyapperuma, and Professor Sir Martin Sweeting of Surrey Satellite Technology Limited (SSTL), have signed a landmark agreement. This agreement signals the beginning of a Sri Lankan national space capability by providing an SSTL Earth Observation satellite and commencing the definition and design of Sri Lanka's first communications satellite. |

Peter Hayes, the British High Commissioner in Sri Lanka, recognised the value of the agreement and commented: "This project is exciting for the development of telecommunications in Sri Lanka and will strengthen the ties between the two countries." The Alliance for Integrated Spatial Technologies at the University of South Florida, USA, recently worked with the Florida Park Service on a project to document the remains of several historic sugar-mill sites in the State Parks to create as-builts to be used in preservation and conservation of these resources. The FARO LS 880, along with GPS and total station georeferencing and colour imaging, was used on these projects.
