The twelve award winners were selected from 135 regional and local Spatial Data Infrastructures in 26 European countries. The aim of the conference was to highlight promising SDI solutions in Europe, exchange experiences and learn from each other. It attracted an international audience of about 130 professionals engaged in activities related to Spatial Data Infrastructure and (re)use of Geographic Information at European, national, regional and local level.

“Each Spatial Data Infrastructure is a special case” – this was the core message of the Award Jury, consisting of six internationally accepted experts in Geographic Information, who emphasised the diversity of the solutions presented and highly commended all twelve shortlisted candidates.

3D Scanning of Historic Sugar Factories

The Alliance for Integrated Spatial Technologies at the University of South Florida, USA, recently worked with the Florida Park Service on a project to document the remains of several historic sugar-mill sites in the State Parks to create as-builts to be used in preservation and conservation of these resources. The FARO LS 880, along with GPS and total station georeferencing and colour imaging, was used on these projects.
