Climate Rainfall Map System

  11/02/2010
SuperGeo Technologies develops Climate Rainfall Map System by using SuperWebGIS, the professional solution for delivering dynamic maps and GIS data along with GIS services via the Web. Surrounded by oceans, Taiwan has a subtropical monsoon climate. The time and space of rainfall distribution is not equal though. Floods often happen in rainy season while droughts occur in dry seasons. Moreover, the climate change in recent years also deteriorates the unequal rainfall in Taiwan.

Since 2005, a stand-alone GIS for rainfall map system has been utilised and the map data generated by the system have been the essential reference for the rainfall forecast and study. To improve the convenience of data providing and efficiency of system use, however, Taiwan Central Weather Bureau plans to build a WebGIS system to centrally manage the rainfall data in a more convenient way. The related staff in the Bureau can thus search, display, and save the rainfall map data via the WebGIS system. Users can also check the website easily without downloading or installing any system objects.

According to the function classification, the system can be divided into the front-end (for display and search) and the back-end (for management). The front-end includes four main functions: Basic Map Manipulation, Rainfall Map Manipulation, Users Map Data, and Map Image Export. On the other hand, the back-end contains three parts, which are user management, schedule management, and background program management.

Climate Rainfall Map System provides a cross-unit platform integrating geographic information data and system services. In addition to improving the convenience of data providing for Taiwan Central Weather Bureau, the platform also raises the use of the rainfall data and enlarges the applicability, via the WebGIS platform.

3D Scanning of Historic Sugar Factories

The Alliance for Integrated Spatial Technologies at the University of South Florida, USA, recently worked with the Florida Park Service on a project to document the remains of several historic sugar-mill sites in the State Parks to create as-builts to be used in preservation and conservation of these resources. The FARO LS 880, along with GPS and total station georeferencing and colour imaging, was used on these projects.
