The Stuttgart 21 project comprises the replacement of the main station, along with tunneling under the entire city. The outcome of the project will be reduced journey times of over half an hour by removing the current bottle-neck at the station. Grontmij is providing planning and tender management services. Total costs are estimated to be more than EUR6 billion.

Grontmij's contract sum for the current phase of the project is over EUR5.5 million. On completion of this phase, there is potential for Grontmij to be appointed on the subsequent construction supervision phase which will last until 2019.

3D Scanning of Historic Sugar Factories

The Alliance for Integrated Spatial Technologies at the University of South Florida, USA, recently worked with the Florida Park Service on a project to document the remains of several historic sugar-mill sites in the State Parks to create as-builts to be used in preservation and conservation of these resources. The FARO LS 880, along with GPS and total station georeferencing and colour imaging, was used on these projects.
