| In the past 25 years, GAF has been pioneering with the ability to take a bird's eye view of the Earth. The company accomplished this with subsidiary Euromap which made it the largest provider of a range of commercial satellite imagery and geodata sets in Germany. This imagery has become an indispensable tool for modern urban and regional planning tasks, as well as in numerous other disciplines. |
|
GAF has its head office in Munich, Germany, and was founded in 1985 by Dr. Rupert Haydn (left on the image) together with AHT and WAF (Wittelsbacher Compensation Fund). It was the first time that services in the field of Earth observation using satellite imagery had been made commercially available for business as well as for public clients. GAF continued to develop the business field of Earth observation as a core area of skill and expertise in the company by integrating other geoinformation technologies. Today, GAF and its 150 highly qualified members of staff offer a unique and multi-disciplinary portfolio of spatial information products and services for all areas of satellite data and GIS applications throughout the world.

The Alliance for Integrated Spatial Technologies at the University of South Florida, USA, recently worked with the Florida Park Service on a project to document the remains of several historic sugar-mill sites in the State Parks to create as-builts to be used in preservation and conservation of these resources. The FARO LS 880, along with GPS and total station georeferencing and colour imaging, was used on these projects.
