First ALTM Pegasus for Blom CGR

  16/03/2010
Blom is the first to purchase the ALTM Pegasus, the newest member of Optech's ALTM Airborne Laser Terrain Mapper product family. Blom will soon take delivery of the system. Blom has been involved in major European projects related to environmental control and risk assessment using lidar and orthophoto data. This will be the seventh lidar system for the Blom Group.

Optech ALTM Pegasus "Buying the new Pegasus system reiterates our position to stay on the cutting edge of technology. Our endeavor is to continually provide our clients with the highest quality of data sets for their applications, to be more productive during acquisition, and to deliver higher-density point clouds," said Giovanni Banchini, Chairman and Managing Director of Blom CGR, Blom's Italian subsidiary. "The Pegasus will be immediately used for our European market and customers. Quality has always represented the most important factor in our projects, and to maintain our leading position in the market we must continue to work in a strong partnership with our instrument providers. Optech is one of our most important partners for this application," he continued.

"We are pleased that Blom CGR has chosen to add the world's first 400kHz Airborne Laser Terrain Mapper to their already impressive sensor suite," said Don Carswell, President of Optech. "The Pegasus HD 400 incorporates many industry firsts in a revolutionary sensor design: a multi-channel laser configuration, fully embedded digital imaging options, multi-look angle approach to data collection, and true 400-kHz on-the-ground measurement capability. We look forward to exploring with Blom the significant performance and competitive advantages this unique configuration offers over conventional airborne lidar system designs."

3D Scanning of Historic Sugar Factories

The Alliance for Integrated Spatial Technologies at the University of South Florida, USA, recently worked with the Florida Park Service on a project to document the remains of several historic sugar-mill sites in the State Parks to create as-builts to be used in preservation and conservation of these resources. The FARO LS 880, along with GPS and total station georeferencing and colour imaging, was used on these projects.
