Intergeo East to Make Good Start in Istanbul

  22/03/2010
International companies like Leica Geosystems and Topcon/Sokkia, represented by its Turkish distributor Paksoy Tech.Serv.& Trade Ltd.Co., are among the exhibitors who are to use Intergeo East as a global forum for making contacts. From 20th to 21st May Istanbul will attract companies and institutions from thirteen countries around the world (whilst the conference will start on 19th May).

Intergeo East

Istanbul is breaking new ground for Intergeo East. It is the first time that Istanbul will serve as the point of contact for geo experts to exchange know-how and information. From the outset, Istanbul - the only city in the world straddling two continents - symbolically reflects Intergeo East's aim of forging links to facilitate information sharing between industry professionals. Alongside exhibitors from Turkey and Germany, companies and institutions from China, Russia, Taiwan, Canada, Hungary, Austria, Croatia, Greece, France, Italy and the Netherlands have also registered for the 6th Intergeo East. As a result, Istanbul is not just the European Capital of Culture for 2010 (as the representative of a non-EU country), but also the centre of the geo industry.

Intergeo has been a key tool for our marketing activities in Germany for more than 20 years. This year, we are taking part in Intergeo East for the second time. We have seen from our own experience that the organisers are skilled and professional partners. The exhibition gives us the opportunity to showcase our new engineering software for roads and rail. Demand for the international version of our VESTRA solution is growing all the time. We are confident we will make new leads in Istanbul, says Jens Guenther, Managing Director of AKG Software Consulting GmbH.

Nikolaus Studnicka, Manager International Sales of Riegl LMS GmbH, also has high expectations of Istanbul: As a world leading manufacturer of 3D laser scanners for terrestrial, airborne and mobile surveying, Riegl Laser Measurement Systems GmbH this year is taking part in Intergeo East for the third time. We are looking forward to working with our Turkish sales partner SEZA Ltd. and showing customers and interested parties from Asia and Europe our latest products and developments at Intergeo East 2010 in Istanbul.

The three-day conference in Istanbul will focus on the topics of Networking world and Bringing space down. Conference Director Prof. Rahmi Nurhan Çelik has promised regional, international, technological and institutional sessions incorporating all the key areas of the geo industry. The International Society for Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing (ISPRS) and the Istanbul Technical University Department for Geodesy and Photogrammetry Engineering are helping to organise Intergeo East in Istanbul this year. Highlights of the conference programme include plenary sessions on Map Production and Updating (Thursday, 20 May) and Terrestrial and Aerial Laser Scanner Applications (Friday, 21st May).

3D Scanning of Historic Sugar Factories

The Alliance for Integrated Spatial Technologies at the University of South Florida, USA, recently worked with the Florida Park Service on a project to document the remains of several historic sugar-mill sites in the State Parks to create as-builts to be used in preservation and conservation of these resources. The FARO LS 880, along with GPS and total station georeferencing and colour imaging, was used on these projects.
