Low-noise IMU

  06/05/2010
NovAtel has announced the latest product in its GNSS/INS SPAN product family, the IMU-LCI. The IMU-LCI contains a Northrop Grumman sensor that provides the low noise and stability required for applications requiring precise positioning and attitude.

Novatel IMU-LCINovAtel's SPAN (Synchronous Position, Attitude and Navigation) products tightly-couple precise GNSS technology with accurate inertial measurement technology to provide a robust, stable and continuous position, velocity and attitude solution.

The IMU-LCI is a tactical-grade IMU with fiber-optic gyros and micro-mechanical accelerometers. The low-noise and highly stable sensor characteristics of both the gyros and the accelerometers make this sensor an excellent choice for airborne and ground survey applications. IMU-LCI is compatible with the latest SPAN receiver products, including the SPAN-SE enclosed receiver system and the SPAN-MPPC receiver card-stack.

With IMU components manufactured in Europe, and final assembly occurring in Canada, this IMU is not subject to the US-ITAR. Its export requires Canadian export approvals only. First shipments of IMU-LCI IMUs will take place in June 2010.

3D Scanning of Historic Sugar Factories

The Alliance for Integrated Spatial Technologies at the University of South Florida, USA, recently worked with the Florida Park Service on a project to document the remains of several historic sugar-mill sites in the State Parks to create as-builts to be used in preservation and conservation of these resources. The FARO LS 880, along with GPS and total station georeferencing and colour imaging, was used on these projects.
