Leica FPES v10.1

  02/06/2010
Leica Flight Planning & Evaluation Software (FPES) v10.1 allows a fast and automatic load of DTM data with sophisticated computation capabilities. Beside many other enhancements Leica FPES v10.1 supports Windows OS including Windows 7, and a flexible data import and export in different formats including Google Earth.

Leica Flight Planning softwareThe flight plan can be in any coordinate system. The transformation of the data is handled by FPES automatically. In addition local DTMs in all common formats are supported. The new version provides a tool to convert DTMs to georeferenced bitmaps.

Leica FPES v10.1 computes flight lines to ensure gap-free stereoscopic coverage of areas. This can be an area of interest (AOI) of any shape, a corridor or an individual single line. Various parameters can be pre-set and tuned to adapt the flight plan layout according to preferences or to fit the exposures to a given map-sheet layout. Safety factors allow users to conveniently optimize their flight planning without editing the polygon points of an AOI.

To verify or to optimise the flight planning on difficult terrain and for evaluation of flown lines Leica FPES provides a convenient QC tool which presents adaptable color-coded GSD, Lidar point density or image scale of the footprint of a flight line.

The data import and export in Leica FPES is now even more flexible. The most common formats including Google Earth and export to UNS and 3rd party Flight Management Systems (FMS) are supported. The powerful data export simplifies the creation of proposals, reports, and invoices.

The new release of Leica FPES v10.1 supports Windows OS including Windows 7 (32 bit and 64 bit).

3D Scanning of Historic Sugar Factories

The Alliance for Integrated Spatial Technologies at the University of South Florida, USA, recently worked with the Florida Park Service on a project to document the remains of several historic sugar-mill sites in the State Parks to create as-builts to be used in preservation and conservation of these resources. The FARO LS 880, along with GPS and total station georeferencing and colour imaging, was used on these projects.
