Free World Cup Stadium Viewer

  11/06/2010
To celebrate the opening of the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, AAM and partner company, AOC Geomatics, have released two products on their websites: movies/fly throughs of the stadiums in 3D and a free World Cup Stadium Viewer.

The World Cup Stadium Viewer is quick and easy to use. Simply click onto one of the soccer balls to open up a Pictometry captured image of the stadium, then click onto the stadium image to start an interactive experience of the stadium with perspectives: north, south, east, west and vertical.

Each stadium is being showcased using Pictometry Online. Pictometry Online provides automatic and instant access to oblique and vertical views in an intuitive, easy-to-use web interface. Users have online access to measurement tools such as building height, roof pitch and area.

AAM and AOC are constantly updating their Pictometry Online coverage, with extensive coverage already available over South Africa, Australia and New Zealand. AAM and AOC have also released three new 3D building models of the South African World Cup Stadiums on their websites. Movies of these 3D building models showcase the different angles and views over Soccer City Stadium, Green Point Stadium and Ellis Park Stadium.

3D Scanning of Historic Sugar Factories

The Alliance for Integrated Spatial Technologies at the University of South Florida, USA, recently worked with the Florida Park Service on a project to document the remains of several historic sugar-mill sites in the State Parks to create as-builts to be used in preservation and conservation of these resources. The FARO LS 880, along with GPS and total station georeferencing and colour imaging, was used on these projects.
