Topocad 12.2

  06/07/2010
Chaos Systems is improving Topocad and from version 12.2 point-clouds of large scanning files can be handled. The new module also can use LAS files from scanning instrucments and files as PTS, XYZ and ASCII formats. These are converted into the Topocad Point Cloud format (.tpc) which is indexed with functions for import of other scanning file formats.

The TPC file supports
- Cross-terrain section creation from exisiting DTMs into one TPC fil
- Creating terrain longitudinal vertical section profiles
- When creating a DTM from a PTS file, parts of the PTS can be selected to use as a DTM in all other commands
- Volume calculation by model
- Creating contours directly from a PTC file (available from a later release)
This way of data management is a new way to achieve data, facilitating handling huge point-cloud files in a standard way for cross-sections and profiles in mapping and design.

3D Scanning of Historic Sugar Factories

The Alliance for Integrated Spatial Technologies at the University of South Florida, USA, recently worked with the Florida Park Service on a project to document the remains of several historic sugar-mill sites in the State Parks to create as-builts to be used in preservation and conservation of these resources. The FARO LS 880, along with GPS and total station georeferencing and colour imaging, was used on these projects.
