Masternaut Tracks 2,500-mile Istanbul to Leeds Bike Ride

  14/07/2010
Masternaut Three X is providing real-time satellite tracking for Mike, Rebecca and Steven Tomlinson, husband and children of the late charity fundraiser Jane Tomlinson CBE, and their team of cyclists on their 2,500-mile ride from Istanbul to Leeds. Using an advanced portable tracking unity attached to one of the bicycles, the Masternaut web-based system will monitor the team on-road activity and performance, providing instant live progress reports.

The cyclists making an effort for the charityThe ride begins on 25th July and is in aid of the Jane Tomlinson Appeal. Supporters will be able to track the riders progress in real-time on the events website  which will also contain daily blogs and latest pictures taken on the journey.

"We are pleased to support the Jane Tomlinson Appeal and the bike riders in their efforts. Jane was a remarkable local person and the appeal is a tremendous legacy and memorial to her," said Martin Port, Masternaut Three X MD.

Supporters will be able to log on to the team website for the up-to-the minute progress reports. They will see the cycle team movement on a live map, which will bring an added dimension to the event.

Mike Tomlinson said: "We thank Masternaut for providing the technology for people to be able to follow what we hope will be an epic ride. It will also provide some assurance to the riders that their exact road position can be provided in case of emergencies."

The Jane Tomlinson Appeal was set up by a very determined Yorkshire woman to help children's and cancer charities across Yorkshire, the UK and the globe. Before her death in 2007 Jane Tomlinson CBE raised GBP1.85m through a series of incredible physical challenges.

The unique Masternaut web-based system tracks more than 120,000 vehicles across Europe, with more than 60,000 tracking units fitted to vehicles in the UK. The company provides end-to-end solutions for businesses on the move, including vehicle tracking, mobile workforce applications and Microsoft Dynamics business management software. The company's unique GreenerFleet solution enables fleet operators to drive down their environmental impact, reducing emissions and slashing fuel costs. In addition, Masternaut Three X provides innovative solutions to support Duty of Care initiatives.

3D Scanning of Historic Sugar Factories

The Alliance for Integrated Spatial Technologies at the University of South Florida, USA, recently worked with the Florida Park Service on a project to document the remains of several historic sugar-mill sites in the State Parks to create as-builts to be used in preservation and conservation of these resources. The FARO LS 880, along with GPS and total station georeferencing and colour imaging, was used on these projects.
