In a renewed effort to boost power supply in Lagos State, the management of the Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN), has inaugurated a Geographical Information System (GIS), unit for prompt service delivery.



The new information technology installed by Hafmani Nigeria Limited at the Lagos Island business unit of Eko Electricity Distribution Zone is to monitor all power problems in the state for routine maintenance, repairs and rectification.


Hafmani, which is the technology consultant to the PHCN, has, however commenced a nationwide training for staff of the PHCN to meet the operational standard of the GIS equipment. Speaking at the inauguration of the GIS unit, the Chief Executive Officer of Eko Electricity Distribution Zone, Mr Ayo Obilomo, implored the members of staff to remain focused and committed while ensuring that the GIS unit served its purpose.


According to Obilomo, "the GIS project is not the only innovative package and solution to stable power supply but also a step toward providing other solutions to power problems.

3D Scanning of Historic Sugar Factories

The Alliance for Integrated Spatial Technologies at the University of South Florida, USA, recently worked with the Florida Park Service on a project to document the remains of several historic sugar-mill sites in the State Parks to create as-builts to be used in preservation and conservation of these resources. The FARO LS 880, along with GPS and total station georeferencing and colour imaging, was used on these projects.
