Leica PowerDigger Lite

  30/07/2010
Leica PowerDigger Lite is an entry-level single-slope guidance system for all types of excavators. It is developed as an easy-to-use, economic control system meeting the needs of contractors looking for economical machine control systems. Being designed for single slope applications, PowerDigger Lite is ideal for mini excavators and backhoes.

Leica PowerDigger Lite is the new entry-level system of the Leica PowerDigger portfolio of excavator systems - the result of twelve years experience with excavating guidance systems. The system is based on the PowerDigger hardware platform. It and can be mounted on any excavator.

PowerDigger Lite's heart is the rugged control panel (IP68) with a full-color graphical display providing a simple, intuitive user interface for quick learning and increased productivity. All functions are logically placed for straightforward operation. To start work, operators simply choose a height reference and enter the desired slope.

It can be used for foundations, embankments, pipe trenches, grading, and even for underwater work, as the user can always see the bucket position relative to target grade on the display. By eliminating over-excavation, and working faster, contractors will save time, money, fuel and materials costs.

Leica PowerDigger Lite also removes the need for grade checking, increasing safety on busy construction sites. Additionally, when working in potentially dangerous areas, e.g. under bridges and power lines or inside buildings, the operator can preset a maximum working height or depth, and be warned when the excavator arm or bucket reaches the critical height. Leica PowerDigger Lite also features the unique integrated buried service detection warning. An EZiDIG cable detection sensor can be interfaced directly to the PowerDigger CAN connection. The operator will be alerted of buried services while digging by an audio alarm and a multi-level bar on the PowerDigger Lite display.

3D Scanning of Historic Sugar Factories

The Alliance for Integrated Spatial Technologies at the University of South Florida, USA, recently worked with the Florida Park Service on a project to document the remains of several historic sugar-mill sites in the State Parks to create as-builts to be used in preservation and conservation of these resources. The FARO LS 880, along with GPS and total station georeferencing and colour imaging, was used on these projects.
