EGNOS Services Temporarily Unavailable

  09/08/2010
Since last August 2nd ESSP has launched the procedure on the European Geostationary Navigation Overlay Service (EGNOS) system to remove the Message type 0 (‘don't use in Aviation') from the EGNOS Signal in Space, in order to start broadcasting EGNOS integrity messages. Several attempts were performed during these last days in view of the future activation of the Safety Of Live (SoL) service. During these tests it was observed that when transitioning to Safety of Life Mode, the system declared all GPS satellites and ionospheric monitoring points (IGP) as 'Not Monitored'. This has no adverse safety impacts on the GNSS users but makes the EGNOS services unavailable.

The investigation has been activated and a new work plan is under preparation with ESA and Industry with the goal to enable the start of the SoL service in November this year as planned.
This work plan might include the execution of further tests, and prior to the implementation of such cases, ESSP will inform in due time the EGNOS user community through the ESSP web site.
Meanwhile, ESSP has temporarily suspended the migration to SoL service and has restored a stable Open Service. ESSP will continue to broadcast this Open Service until this new work plan to transition to SoL is defined.

ESSP will immediately inform users when the migration to SoL service will be resumed.
Information on the signal status can be also consulted in ESSP User support website.

3D Scanning of Historic Sugar Factories

The Alliance for Integrated Spatial Technologies at the University of South Florida, USA, recently worked with the Florida Park Service on a project to document the remains of several historic sugar-mill sites in the State Parks to create as-builts to be used in preservation and conservation of these resources. The FARO LS 880, along with GPS and total station georeferencing and colour imaging, was used on these projects.
