GeoEye Earth Observation Operator of the Year

  09/09/2010
GeoEye has been named Earth Observation Operator of the Year by Euroconsult. The award was presented to Matt O'Connell, GeoEye's chief executive officer and president, in Paris during the World Satellite Business Week, the industry's premier event now in its fourteenth year.

The Euroconsult awards recognise companies and their leaders who, through their vision, innovation or performance have had a major impact on the satellite industry in the past year. This tradition at World Satellite Business Week allows business leaders to celebrate together the winners and the success of the industry.

The awards are presented to companies for outstanding achievement in several categories and are based on quantitative data such as performance indicators including EBITDA, revenue and profit growth, subscriber or terminal growth and market penetration; and qualitative data such as innovation, strategic decision making and overall impact on the industry. A jury of industry experts from Euroconsult, Space News and Satellite Finance determines these awards.

3D Scanning of Historic Sugar Factories

The Alliance for Integrated Spatial Technologies at the University of South Florida, USA, recently worked with the Florida Park Service on a project to document the remains of several historic sugar-mill sites in the State Parks to create as-builts to be used in preservation and conservation of these resources. The FARO LS 880, along with GPS and total station georeferencing and colour imaging, was used on these projects.
