Cadcorp's Fire Services User Group Meeting12/11/2010 |
| Digital mapping and geographic information systems (GIS) software developer, Cadcorp, UK, played host to its users and partners in the fire and rescue services. Close on the heels of the Comprehensive Spending Review, the meeting was a timely opportunity for attendees to share best practices in using GIS and mapping technologies to improve service delivery. |

Representatives from Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service demonstrated their recent work in integrating Cadcorp Spatial Information System (SIS) with their Incident Reporting System (IRS). The outcome is a system which can report the location of incidents to sub-metre accuracies.
The Ordnance Survey updated the audience on the latest developments in its range of data products, including OS VectorMap, and discussed the benefits of the public sector mapping agreement (PSMA) for the wider sharing of geographic information.
Specialist suppliers of emergency services software SSI Solutions demonstrated its own incident reporting product, based on Cadcorp technology. Mark Taylor showed how by linking with SSI's portal-based performance management system - OWLe- this integrated solution can help fire services assess their performance against targets.
Better known for its work in the private sector, the credit-rating and data analytics company Experian demonstrated why many fire services are increasingly interested in their Mosaic geodemographic classification system. It is an invaluable tool for fire risk assessment and mitigation.
"The event is an invaluable opportunity for geographic information specialists to network with their peers and share user experience. It is always helpful to be informed of on-going developments in Cadcorp products, as it allows us to plan ahead for their deployment", said Ray Hooper, GIS Manager, London Fire Brigade.

Using Total Stations for Indoor Radiation Mapping |
|
A total station can be used for many applications. Oak Ridge Associated Universities (USA) uses a total station for indoor radiation characterisation, which enables the team to better perform environmental assessments. This video shows how it is done.
