Safe Software FME 2011 Launch

  20/01/2011
Safe Software has launched a new version of its spatial data transformation platform, FME 2011. Built to address industry advancements and customer feedback, the package assist organisations to control their spatial data and improve data interoperability.

In today's environment of diversity of data formats and data models, as well as increasing data volumes, organisations are facing more and more pressure to maximise the use of their spatial data for planning and decision making.

As LiDAR increasingly enters the mainstream, many organizations are looking for a way to manage the potential of point clouds. To address this growing need, FME 2011 introduces support for point cloud data, enabling organisations to efficiently. It integrates point clouds with conventional GIS data, restructure point cloud datasets by clipping, thinning, reprojecting, combining, splitting, and creating surface models and facilitate read and write point cloud data in a range of industry-standard formats, including LAS (multiple versions), Pointools POD and XYZ ASCII.

FME 2011 also introduces usability improvements and innovative features that not only make creating and maintaining spatial data transformation workflows faster and easier than before, but also help new users quickly learn how to use FME to solve a wide range of data interoperability challenges.

Using Total Stations for Indoor Radiation Mapping

A total station can be used for many applications. Oak Ridge Associated Universities (USA) uses a total station for indoor radiation characterisation, which enables the team to better perform environmental assessments. This video shows how it is done.
