| A disaster-monitoring robot equipped with RIEGL LMS-Z210 laser scanner has been put to work in the dangerous vicinity of Fukushima No.1 Nuclear Power Plant to provide the necessary information for a better overview of the situation and to support further important decisions. | |
Since the great earthquake of Friday 11th March 2011, and the disastrous tsunami that followed, RIEGL Austria has been closely observing the developments in Japan. The precarious situation at the nuclear power plants involved is a concern. RIEGL is excited that the laser scanner can assist the technicians at Fukushima in executing their important and substantial work knowing that on their success the fortune of so many will be decided.
An article on the application is to be found at the ASAHI newspaper company's website. The robotic vehicle belongs to Nuclear Safety Technology Center. Using Total Stations for Indoor Radiation Mapping |
A total station can be used for many applications. Oak Ridge Associated Universities (USA) uses a total station for indoor radiation characterisation, which enables the team to better perform environmental assessments. This video shows how it is done.
