| The seventh international exhibition and scientific congress Geo-Siberia 2011 was held from 27th to 29th April 2011 in Novosibirsk. The ITE Siberian Fair welcomed nearly a hundred companies, both from abroad and the Russian Federation, showcasing their products, while in the five congress rooms a broad technical and plenary programme was offered to delegates. | ||

Topics included disaster management, aerial surveying, cadastre, GNSS and many, many more. Round tables, workshops and meetings of regional and national unions of Siberian and Ural Surveyors were held in conjunction. The evenings were reserved for social events, according to good Russian tradition with a lot of good food, drinks, music and dance.
GIM International spoke with Professor Karpik, rector of the Siberian State Academy for Geodesy (SSGA), proud organiser of the conference and tradeshow. Professor Karpik states that the future of geodesy in Russia is great and the show in Novosibirsk is reflecting this future, being the biggest one in Russia now. Karpik says, in the Novosibirsk region, the SSGA is heavily involved in setting up a regional reference, coordinate system and the network of base GPS reference stations. This project has already covered 60% of the territory and will reach 80% in the two coming years. According to Karpik this project is just an example showing how much Russia is changing and the big role of geodesy in that change. At least in the upcoming 15 years there will be lots of work for students of the SSGA. A lot of students, more than 250 graduated surveyors and geodetic specialists every year, have already no trouble finding employment throughout the Federation. Students, the surveyors and specialists of the future played a big role during Geo-Siberia. They were both a big help to Argina Novitskaya, the pivot on which the organisation of Geo-Siberia hinges, but when not active in the organisation, sitting in at the many technical sessions in order to make sure that state-of-the-art techniques are incorporated in Russian geodetic policy of now and later.
The tradeshow at the ITE Siberian Fair consisted, besides a small part dedicated to the oil and gas and mining industry in Siberia, largely of the international world of manufactures of hardware, total stations, levels, aerial cameras and so forth, software producers of GIS etc., notably from all over the globe. The United States to China and domestic producers and dealers, from all over Russia, were all well represented at the show floor. Also the delegates came were from international origin, close to 20 countries were represented.

Using Total Stations for Indoor Radiation Mapping |
|
A total station can be used for many applications. Oak Ridge Associated Universities (USA) uses a total station for indoor radiation characterisation, which enables the team to better perform environmental assessments. This video shows how it is done.
