Navigation Conference Added to INTERGEO

  05/09/2011
The Navigation Conference is being held as part of INTERGEO for the first time. The German Federal Ministry of Transport, Building and Urban Development (BMVBS) and the Federal Association for Information Technology, Telecommunications and New Media (BITKOM) are staging their conference in conjunction with the leading international trade fair and conference for geodesy, geoinformation and land management from 27 to 29 September in Nuremberg, Germany.

Held under the slogan "Finding your way in the intelligent world", the Navigation Conference will take a closer look at topics including networked navigation in intelligent cities, real-time services via cloud computing and the proper way to handle aspects of data protection. The programme for the Navigation Conference on 28 September in the CongressCenter Nürnberg (CCN East) is available (in German) at www.bmvbs.de/DieNavigationskonferenz. The BMVBS site also offers free registration for the event until 21 September.

The Forum for Satellite Navigation will also be ensuring close links with the trade fair. With the BMVBS acting as patron and host, Germany's central platform for navigation initiatives will be showcasing its services with a joint stand at INTERGEO for the first time. The stand in Hall 6 will be located close to the displays by the European Space Agency (ESA) and the European GNSS Agency (GSA).

Rainer Bomba, State Secretary in the BMVBS finds the addition of the Navigation Conference a logical step, given that the interplay between navigation, IT and geoinformation offers such enormous potential for innovation. "By engaging in cross-industry dialogue, we aim to create synergies that will help German companies, and SMEs in particular, forge ahead in the international market." Meanwhile, the number of exhibitors due to attend the trade fair and conference for geodesy, geoinformation and land management has risen to over 500 companies from a total of 31 countries.

Using Total Stations for Indoor Radiation Mapping

A total station can be used for many applications. Oak Ridge Associated Universities (USA) uses a total station for indoor radiation characterisation, which enables the team to better perform environmental assessments. This video shows how it is done.
