Texas Fires Captured and Mapped

This is a satellite image of DigitalGlobe showing a fire burning just outside Bastrop, Texas (USA). In this image, the red vegetation is healthy and the blue-black areas are burning or burnt. This image has been rotated so that north is on the left. LUECKE is a pattern of trees, spelling out the name of a local farmer. Below the article is a MODIS image.

The town of Bastrop is just off the lower right, and Paige, Texas is located in the upper left. The road running up and down the upper left is HWY 290. The road running up and down the right is HWY 71.

 

The fire is reported to have distroyed 1,386 houses in the area. Esri has made available a dedicated wildfire map, displaying the locations of fires and added information like Youtube videos, imagery and tweets.
