Autumn Fires in Irkutsk Region

  11/10/2011
During satellite monitoring by ScanEx RDC's fire situation in Russia, specialists received and processed the image of the vicinity of Bratsk town, in the Irkutsk region of Russia, from the UK-DMC2 satellite on 4th October 2011. Smoke plumes and the smog over the town and its surroundings can be clearly seen on the image.

Irkutsk fires
By 5th October 2011, forest special forces and the EMERCOM troops had managed to put out four fire blazes out of a total of eleven fires in the Bratsk area of Irkutsk Region, where the emergency rule was imposed, reports the regional EMERCOM department. In the town of Bratsk itself, where several days ago there was still some smoke, no active fires were detected, nor had any new fires been registered within the past 24-hour period.

According to RIA-Novosti, representatives of the town administration and EMERCOM disproved the information that appeared on the internet about several hundreds of smoke-intoxicated people. Also a local administration representative refuted information about evacuation of the perinatal centre.

According to the real-time satellite-based monitoring data as of 4th October, 170 thermal spots - probable fire blazes - were registered in the territory of Russia. In the Amur Region, 82 thermal anomalies were detected, with 44 in Zabaikalsky Territory and 14 in Irkutsk Region.
