Emergency Call App for Copenhagen Citizens

  03/05/2012
The Copenhagen Fire Brigade and the National Survey and Cadastre (KMS) have partnered with Intergraph Corporation to develop a mobile app for citizens who need to report an emergency by dialling 112. To respond to 112 calls throughout Denmark, the agencies are using geographical data provided by KMS. The new app will integrate this information and make it available on mobile devices for faster emergency response. Location data from the app will be sent to one of two 112 control rooms for resource allocation and dispatch.

This agreement grew from an existing relationship between Intergraph and the National Survey and Cadastre (KMS) that use Intergraph’s geospatial software for map and cadastre production and Copenhagen Fire Brigade that use Intergraph’s geospatial software to locate 112 callers.

Until now, 112 calls from mobile devices could identify only a rough location of the applicable cell tower – typically within several 100 metres. The new app will be able to locate the caller within a few metres, with no need for a nearby street name.

The mobile app serves as a supplement to traditional 112 calling and positions Intergraph as a frontrunner in the mobile GIS market.

Financing the effort is TrygFonden, a national foundation that supports and promotes life-saving initiatives.
