4DMapper Launches Complete Geospatial Data Solution

4DMapper, a browser-based 3D geospatial data gateway, has been launched early July 2015, changing the way geospatial data is stored, delivered, visualised and shared. Powerful cloud processing enables the fusion of multi-source content and seamless streaming of massive data files, immediately, to unlimited users, on their browsers. According to 4DMapper, this turns the geospatial world inside out, enabling access to big data without local storage, hardware and software. Geospatial datasets are massive and growing; from Lidar, satellite imagery, photogrammetry (orthophotos, digital terrain models and point clouds) and laser scanner point clouds. Current management solutions involve shipping of hard drives, blind ftp transfers or uploading and downloading via traditional GIS web servers. The... (read more)

Satel Launches Extremely Small Radio Data Transceiver Module

With the launch of the new Satelline TR4, the Finnish manufacturer of radio data transmission systems Satel aims to set a new milestone. The compact UHF transceiver with transmitting power of 1,000 mW is compatible with the protocols of Pacific Crest, Trimble and Satel. The type certifications in all important regions of the world make the Sateline TR4 very suitable for integration in end devices that are intended for international use. With a weight of only 18 g, transmitting power of 1,000 mW and an “over the air” data transmission rate of 38,400 bps it fulfils all present-day standards. Among the smallest UHF transceiver in its class, with dimensions of 56 mm x 36 mm x 6 mm, the TR4 is designed for easy integration. Robust UHF frequencies (400 M... (read more)

Just four days after being sent into orbit, Europe’s Sentinel-2A satellite recently delivered its first images of Earth, offering a glimpse of the ‘colour vision’ that it will provide for the Copernicus environmental monitoring programme. With a swath width of 290km, the satellite’s first acquisition began in Sweden. It then made a strip-like observation through central Europe and the Mediterranean region, ending in Algeria. The data was relayed in real time to Italy’s Matera ground station. While northern and central Europe were mostly cloudy, Italy’s sunny weather allowed the teams to get their first glimpse of the multispectral instrument’s capabilities over the northwestern part of the country and the French Riviera. With a ground res... (read more)
