Why could there not be 2 (or more) categories?
There will be those in our general "surveying" profession who consider themselves to be Land Surveyors, perhaps those who deal only in land (rather than engineering surveying) and those who consider themselves to be geomatic professionals (eg remote sensing experts, GIS specialists, hydrographic surveyors, etc). Is there a Hydrographic Surveyor category? Should there be? Because I am involved with land surveying, engineering surveying, hydrographic surveying, surveying for GIS, dimensional surveying, aerial mapping, etc I would prefer to be considered a Geomatics Professional. And? Did we come to a final decision?

Surveying and/or Geomatics is not a subset or subdiscipline of Engineering. Be proud of your specialism. My Land Surveying degree to 3 yrs full time, plus 2 years supervised experience & APC to be MRICS and I need another period of supervised experience and 6 projects to be a Licensed Surveyor in Australia.

The label of Engineering should be reserved for those individuals designing things. Geomatics is a profession that requires engineering skills, but is not in itself engineering.

i'd like to use Khemraj Chekhori's comment "Geomatics Engineer (Pls note that a land surveyor needs only a 2 yrs diploma for registration and a Geomatics degree requires 4 yrs of studies and is at an advanced levels with many more specialized fields!)", in addition land surveying is just a branch of geomatics, also i'd prefer Geomatics more than Geospatial, or Geo Survey, because "matics" is related more to technologies, and sounds more better

It is a growing reality that there are other fields which are are not exactly Land Surveying (Although may have some interactions with it) that may need to use this categorization to define their type of profession in LinkedIn. Land Surveyor will be very restrictive.

3D Scanning of Historic Sugar Factories |
|
The Alliance for Integrated Spatial Technologies at the University of South Florida, USA, recently worked with the Florida Park Service on a project to document the remains of several historic sugar-mill sites in the State Parks to create as-builts to be used in preservation and conservation of these resources. The FARO LS 880, along with GPS and total station georeferencing and colour imaging, was used on these projects.
