FIG Working Week 2017 Unveils Conference Programme

From 28 May to 2 June surveyors, land experts, geospatial professionals and allies from all over the world will gather in Helsinki, Finland, for the FIG Working Week 2017. It will be an ideal opportunity to meet again, to network, to take stock of the key challenges of our time within the surveying profession and to strategise about the profession’s future.

With already more than 1,000 registered participants gathering from numerous countries, this year’s edition is going to be one of the biggest FIG Working Weeks to date. The 79th FIG Working Week is hosted by the International Federation of Surveyors (FIG), the Finnish Association of Geodetic and Land Surveyors (MIL) and the Finnish Association of Surveyors (MAKLI).

This year the conference programme is as rich as ever. On Tuesday 30 May Ed Parsons, geospatial technologist of Google, will set the scene for the FIG Working Week and the overall theme: Surveying the world of tomorrow – From digitalisation to augmented reality. Parsons will talk about the activities going on both above and below the radar and the professional’s role in the future from an overall level setting the tone and context of our world.

New additions

New to the FIG Working Week? Join at the session for newcomers on Tuesday to meet members of the council, the FIG Office and other participants who will experience the FIG Working Week for the first time. Do not miss this the opportunity to learn more about FIG, on how to making most of your attendance.

This FIG Working Week will mark a handful of firsts. A new format – quick presentations called Short Inspirational Sessions (ISS) – will officially make its debut. The presentations are short, sharp and specific, hence maximise information and idea gathering. Following the inspiring presentations there will be a lively discussion.

Finally, the technical programme offers 80 informative and exciting sessions covering the entire spectrum of the surveying profession reflecting the range of the ten FIG technical commissions, some organised by the commissions, some organised in collaborations with our partners, hereunder World Bank, UN-Habitat GLTN and FAO. Each of the 4 Platinum members of FIG, Esri, Trimble, Bentley and Leica Geosystems can also be found within the Technical Programme.
