Australian Space Agency Signs MoU with ACT

The Australian Space Agency has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Australian Capital Territory (ACT) government to cooperate closely on developing Australian space-reliant industries. The agreement will see the Adelaide-based agency and ACT government seeking to cooperate on quantum communications, deep space communications, design, test and qualification of space hardware, space situational awareness, and space law.

“We want to ensure that the ACT’s own space industry can continue to grow with the support of the agency,” said ACT Chief Minister Andrew Barr MLA. “With nearly one in four Australian space industry jobs based in Canberra, we recognize that building partnerships in this sector will strengthen the local and national industry and create more jobs here in Canberra.”

Head of the Australian Space Agency, Dr Megan Clark AC, said “All states and territories have a vital role to play in growing our space sector. We’re continuing to work closely with all jurisdictions across Australia as we establish our location in Adelaide.”

Memorandums of Understanding with other states and territories are anticipated in the near future.
