Conference Dinners during ISPRS Geospatial Week 2019

During the Geospatial Week, participants can choose between two conference dinners. The first one will be held on Tuesday 11 June 2019 in the village of Denekamp, at the Singraven country estate. The second conference dinner will be held on Thursday 13 June 2019 at De Jaargetijden, located in the Volkspark in the centre of Enschede.

Dinner at Koetshuis, Huize Singraven, Denekamp

The estate of Singraven has a long history dating back to 1381 when it started as a large farmstead. This was rebuilt in 1415, and for the next few centuries the manor belonged to the Dukes of Bentheim (Germany) and the titled Sloet family. They demolished the manor and rebuilt it in 1615, creating the stately home as it still stands today. Since 1956 the estate has been managed by the Edwina van Heek Foundation. The estate is beautifully situated along the River Dinkel, close to Denekamp. On the estate there are many other historic buildings, such as the Koetshuis (coach house) and the ancient three-wheeled water mill. The water mill dates back to 1448 and was painted by the famous 17th-century Dutch artists Meindert Hobbema and Jacob van Ruisdael. Their paintings are now displayed in the Louvre in Paris and in the National Gallery in London, respectively. Singraven offers a versatile landscape with forests, fields, pastures, marshes and the ever-present Dinkel river.

The Singraven country estate is opening its gates especially for our conference delegates. Various starters and a range of main dishes will be offered at different locations in an informal atmosphere. Buses will transport our guests from the conference venue to Singraven and back to their respective hotels.

Dinner at Parklocatie De Jaargetijden, Enschede

In the 18th century, the textile trade became more and more important for the Twente region and the city of Enschede. During wintertime, when there was no work for the farmers on the land, they wove cloth at home in order to earn money. When steam engines were introduced in the 19th century, Twente and Enschede became the centre of the textile industry.

The Volkspark Enschede was established as a park in 1872. The layout was made possible by the legacy of Hendrik Jan van Heek, one of the many textile manufacturers in Enschede. His intention was to create a park where textile workers could relax with their families in their spare time. A condition was that no spirits would be served in the restaurant. Musical performances were regularly given in the music tent and a fair was held twice a year, and this tradition still continues to this day.

Parklocatie De Jaargetijden is located in the Volkspark in the centre of Enschede. It is a beautifully situated historic building in the green heart of the city. An attractive terrace overlooking the pond and wedding chapel completes the picture. De Jaargetijden was built in 1873 and extended in 1882.

Dinner will be served in the restaurant, or if the weather is nice food will be served both indoors and outside on the terrace.

A yearly art festival, called ‘Kunst in het Volkspark’, will take place in the park on Sunday 9 June 2019. For those conference participants who are already in Enschede and are interested in art, this is an event which is not to be missed – especially if the weather is nice!

We look forward to welcoming you in Enschede in June 2019!
