Dutch Satellite Start-up Opens up Global Market for Connectivity

Magnitude Space, the first Dutch commercial satellite operator, heralds an innovation in global connectivity. The Amsterdam-based start-up has developed new technology enabling organisations worldwide to simply monitor everything thanks to its global coverage. This is the first time in the world that this type of connectivity is being truly offered everywhere in such an accessible and affordable way. The first customers have already signed up and the start-up has raised an initial EUR1 million for the commercial roll-out.

Magnitudes Space’ satellite network allows for global insights. Whether it is monitoring the precipitation in Africa, the whereabouts of artisanal fishing boats in the Indian Ocean or a farmer in the outback in Australia that wants to know the soil conditions of his pastures or the location of his cattle. Everything can be monitored even in the most remote places on the planet. The connectivity platform can globally support the improvement of yields in agriculture, more sustainable fishing, reducing the effects of climate change or optimising logistics.

Direct insights

Ernst Peter Hovinga, CEO of Magnitude Space said the company’s solution is breaking new ground. Conventional networks like GSM cover only 10% of the surface of world. Magnitude Space can help organisations make a positive impact by enabling them to get direct insights from anything wherever, whenever. The system is developed together with Dutch partners in close cooperation with the European Space Agency (ESA). The first satellite will be launched end of 2017.

Internet of Things

The Magnitude Space Network allows for global deployment of Internet of Things based applications. With this efficient and affordable technology the Dutch start-up aims to crack the market for simple access to data. Expectations are that the first customers will be able to get the full benefits of the system early 2018.
