First Keynote Announced for International Lidar Mapping Forum 2020

The International Lidar Mapping Forum (ILMF) has announced that Tara O’Shea, director of forest programmes at Planet, will give a keynote presentation titled ‘Combining Remote Sensing & Analytics Technologies: Emerging Environmental Applications’ at the 2020 event. This highly anticipated keynote, the first of several available to both ILMF and the co-located ASPRS Annual Conference attendees, will kick off three days of conference programming at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center in Washington, DC, USA, on 23 March 2020.

During her presentation, O'Shea will examine the explosion in the availability of remotely sensed data over the past decade and its impact on emerging environmental and climate applications. She will also showcase applications that combine Planet's unique global dataset with Lidar data to create innovative capabilities in monitoring forest carbon stocks and emissions, mapping wildfire risk and more. A full description of the keynote can be viewed here.

“We take immense pride in organizing a conference programme that is highly technical in principle,” states Lisa Murray, group director at Diversified Communications. “So, whenever we identify a presentation that not only meets those technical standards but is also topical, in the way that Tara’s presentation is relevant to wildfires and climate change, it’s an obvious inclusion.”

With a background in sustainable land use and climate change, Tara O’Shea serves as the director of forest programmes at Planet. She oversees the company's strategy for leveraging its Earth observation capacity to help improve the world's ability to monitor global forests today and also to account for the value of forests in the global economy tomorrow.

“We’re elated to have Tara represent Planet as a keynote speaker at ILMF 2020,” enthuses Bill Emison, conference chair at Diversified Communications. “The use of small satellites is revolutionizing the commercial remote sensing industry and Planet’s innovative imaging and analysis products are at the forefront of that revolution.”

Registration for the 20th edition of ILMF, taking place with the ASPRS Annual Conference and the MAPPS Federal Programs Conference, as part of Geo Week 2020, is now open. Event organizers recommend registering early for the best price and to avoid queues onsite. To register, see here.
