Kadaster Data for OpenStreetMap

The Netherlands' section of the OpenStreetMap project has received TOP10 mapping data under a Creative Commons BY licence, within just two working days of having requested it. The data can be used and transferred on condition that the source is credited.

When working with the data, however, it appears to be not completely ready for use, since open data does not necessarily mean 'open standards'. The data was prepared in a Microsoft Access format, and work has already begun to 'translate' it. The toponymes have been converted into a regular geoformat, thus enabling it to be imported into the OpenStreetMap database.

The data amounts to some 5GB and contains descriptions, boundaries, geographic and functional area descriptions. Also registered names are made public, thus facilitating a correct mentioning of the data.
